Interns, today you get to enjoy what was one of my favorite training days: the obstacle course. May your orienteering skills be strong and your prom hangover be a thing of the past (and if it isn't, one has to wonder why, in this modern society, we've still failed to come up with a universal cure for the humble hangover).

Hello, intrepid Interns. This is just a friendly reminder that your debate on the ethics and dilemmas of time travel is this Wednesday, so you'll want to pay extra attention to your classes on maintaining the timeline, temporal law, and paradox risks in the coming days.
Before I came to work with TEA, I spent over a decade as a Time Bandit, which gives me a unique perspective on these topics. Feel free to ask me anything on this post in the name of research and I'll do my best to answer honestly.

WHAT: Love letters across time. Kind of. Some of this aged real well and Toni isn’t at all smug about it.

If you're the sort of person who is looking to prom tonight and going yes, this is my time, I am made for this: more power to you, and I envy the spirit.
If you're someone going ... well, I guess I've got to go to this thing now, fear not, you're not alone. We'll find each other and stand to the side pretending to make fun of things until there's enough alcohol to join in the fun after all.
In other news, I want to organize a kickball game. Maybe even a whole tournament, if there are enough people up for it. Talk to me if you want to play, I'll get teams assigned. If you don't want to play but like to be involved, we'll need an umpire and cheerleaders, too. And a roaring crowd.

It's Friday the 13th, so a few reminders:
History lesson over. Game time: let's play FMK. I'll start: Vero, Toni, Mal.

• The earliest notation of Friday the 13th having connotation with bad luck is from 1834 in the French literary magazine Revue de Paris. An Italian count killed his daughter on a Friday the 13th, and the author, de Salvo, attributed that to the fact that these things are always on Fridays and that the number 13 is bad luck.All of this to say: don't blame the day for acting foolish. The only reason the day has power is because of superstitious fools.
• Also, a play by de Rochefort-Luçay and Pinel Dumanoir that same year featured a character who attributed his misfortunes to being born on a Friday the 13th. Thus, we can blame the French for this, as well as everything else.
• The first instance of this French mania extending outside of France is in the late 19th century in the US. Fowler formed a society called the Thirteen Club which sought to debunk superstitions about bad luck. There were 13 members, who had a 13 course meal on the 13th day of each month in room 13 of the Knickerbocker Cottage.
• The number 13 is widely regarded as bad luck across cultures. It's debated whether this is because of the Norse myth of Loki crashing a banquet of 12 gods, becoming the 13th, and tricking Höd into shooting Balder, or because of Christian myth of the Last Supper where Judas (the 13th guest) betrayed Jesus which led to his crucifixion on a Friday.
• Christian mythology actually hates Fridays if you look at the Bible. According to many scholars, Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit on a Friday. Cain murdered Abel on a Friday. The Temple of Solomon was destroyed on a Friday. And the Great Flood began on a Friday.- A historical note regarding the Great Flood: many cultures have a similar myth, but the date of the flood beginning varies.
